In-Person Exams
The advent of AI coding models has made it difficult to accurately evaluate student understanding through programming homework assignments alone. To ensure a fair and reliable assessment of each student's grasp of the course material, we use relatively frequent in-class exams throughout the semester. The exams are scheduled during the lab recitiation sections when there is otherwise nothing scheduled.
Format
- Multiple choice scantron exams covering material from prior lectures
- Exams are graded automatically and scored accordingly
- There are four exams total, so each individual exam does not count too heavily toward your final grade
Proctoring Rules
During exams, no external aids are allowed, including:
- Mobile phones
- Laptops
- Smartwatches or other internet-connected devices
- Notes or textbooks
You will use pen and paper only. Please leave all electronic devices in your bag or at the front of the room during the exam.
Exam Weight
Each of the four exams is worth 12.5% of your final grade (50% total for all exams). Because the exams are spread throughout the semester and each one counts for a relatively small portion of your grade, no single exam will make or break your performance in the course.
